LANGSA | ACEH INFO – The State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Langsa took a big step in institutional development by submitting a proposal to transform into the State Islamic University (UIN) Zawiyah Cotkala Langsa to the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) of the Republic of Indonesia.
The submission of this proposal was carried out by the Rector of IAIN Langsa, Prof. Ismail Fahmi Arrauf Nasution, on Friday, August 16, 2024, accompanied by the leadership and Senate.
This status change proposal is the result of a long process involving in-depth studies and careful preparation by a special team formed by IAIN Langsa.
The main objective of the transfer is to broaden the academic scope and make a greater contribution to the development of Islamic education in Indonesia, especially in the Aceh region and beyond.
Dr. Ismail Fahmi Arrauf Nasution, said the submission of this proposal is an important milestone in the history of IAIN Langsa. The transformation into UIN Zawiyah Cotkala Langsa will open up new opportunities for the development of more diverse study programs and strengthen IAIN Langsa’s role in producing young people who are knowledgeable, noble, and ready to contribute to the nation and state.
The Rector also added that infrastructure development, improving the quality of lecturers, and expanding cooperation with various domestic and foreign institutions are priorities in realizing the vision of UIN Zawiyah Cotkala Langsa as a center of excellence for Islamic education in Southeast Asia.
The transfer proposal covers various strategic aspects, including the development of academic programs, increasing the capacity of human resources, and strengthening the role of universities in community service.
The Rector hopes that with this transformation, UIN Zawiyah Cotkala Langsa will be able to make a more significant contribution in overcoming the challenges of Islamic education in the era of globalization.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs welcomes this proposal and will immediately follow up with an evaluation process according to applicable procedures.
The Rector of IAIN Langsa and the entire academic community hope that this form change can be realized in the near future, so that the vision and mission of the university can be realized more optimally.
The submission of this proposal was received by the institutional section of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jakarta, which expressed its appreciation for IAIN Langsa’s efforts in improving the quality of education and dedication to continue to grow.
“Alhamdulillah, the Ministry of Religious Affairs supports the process of changing this status. By changing status to UIN Zawiyah Cotkala Langsa, it is hoped that this campus will be more advanced and make a real contribution to the advancement of Islamic education,” he hoped.
The Rector of IAIN Langsa also expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the Pj Wali mota Langsa, Dr. (c) Syaridin and members of the Langsa DPRK, who have provided recommendations and full support for this status transfer effort.
The recommendation is one of the important components in submitting this proposal and shows a joint commitment in advancing Islamic higher education in Langsa City.

The recommendations given by the Mayor and the Chairman of the Langsa DPRK are clear evidence of the good synergy between local governments and educational institutions. We are very grateful for the trust and support that has been given,” concluded the Rector.
