Meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs, Pj Governor of Aceh Exposes Readiness for PON XXI

JAKARTA | ACEH INFO – Pj Governor of Aceh, H Safrizal ZA, explained Aceh’s readiness to organize the XXI Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON).

The presentation was made at a limited meeting chaired by the Minister of Home Affairs, in Jakarta, Friday 30 August 2024.

Participating in the meeting was the PB PON Aceh committee who followed it virtually from Banda Aceh and the PB PON North Sumatra committee.

“We believe that the implementation of PON will be successful, starting from organizing, administrative success, economic success and of course achievement success,” said Safrizal.

Safrizal said starting a few days ago, athletes have started arriving from all over Indonesia. Some sports have also begun to be competed.

Meanwhile, the main venue, Harapan Bangsa Stadium in Lhong Raya Banda Aceh, has been fully completed. The main venue of this soccer field will later be used as the opening location of PON on September 9.

“Today is the construction of the stage structure for the opening ceremony. Perfect (stadium construction) if this,” said Safrizal.

Safrizal explained that several other venues such as weightlifting, fencing and tennis which are located in the stadium complex have also been completed, only the installation of competing equipment.

In general, Safrizal explained that the construction of PON arenas in Aceh has been completed and is ready to be used during the match. Only some of the construction of supporting facilities is being accelerated.

For Aceh, the match locations are spread across 10 districts / cities. There are 33 sports that will be competed. PON XXI will be opened directly by President Joko Widodo on September 9 next month.

Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian said that the Ministry of Home Affairs was ordered by the President to fully support the successful implementation of PON, especially in the framework of the involvement of local governments and district / city governments.

“We have given a circular to all other provinces in terms of budget support for accommodation costs for athletes and officials of regional participants,” said Tito.

Tito also requested that the Aceh government ensure the readiness of hospitals from provincial to district levels to handle all forms of emergency.

He also requested that the local government write to the Ministry of Transportation to increase the intensity of flights to Aceh from before to after the PON.

The candidate pair for Governor and Deputy Governor of Aceh, Bustami Hamzah-Teungku Muhammad Yusuf or Tu Sop, officially registered with the Aceh KIP, Thursday afternoon, August 29, 2024.

Thousands of sympathizers and supporters first held a convoy around Banda Aceh before registering. The masses also gathered next to Ratu Safiatuddin Park and held political speeches in turns.

A number of political parties supporting Bustami-Tu Sop in the upcoming Aceh gubernatorial election in November called themselves the New Hope Coalition.

“We are optimistic that the Bustami – Tu Sop pair will win for Harapan Baru Aceh in the future,” he concluded.
