Panwaslih Pidie Jaya Collaborates with Journalists to Supervise Regional Elections
The Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslih) of Pidie Jaya Regency invites journalists to participate in supervising the implementation of each stage of the Regional Head Election (Pilkada). Journalists are asked to report on the Pilkada constructively to increase public participation and the quality of democracy.
This was conveyed by the Head of the Pidie Jaya Panwaslih, Teungku Darwis, Friday, August 30, 2024 when opening the Election Supervision Socialization event in Meureudu. The event themed “The role of the media in supervising the 2024 simultaneous regional head elections” also presented journalist Iskandar Norman as a speaker.
“The role of the media is very vital in supervising the Pilkada, we hope for good cooperation, so that later good Pilkada supervision will be realized, which will ultimately produce quality Pilkada output,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, Iskandar Norman, who was a speaker at the event, explained that the Pilkada gave birth to various dynamics, therefore journalists must test every piece of information, then report it in a balanced manner, not interfere with facts and opinions that judge, and apply the principle of the presumption of innocence.
“Journalists must be apathetic, it is the obligation of journalists to verify an issue before reporting it, because in the world of journalism, truth is not yet truth until it is verified and presented in a cover bot side,” he explained.
Iskandar Norman added, testing information means checking and rechecking the truth of information. Balanced means giving space or time for reporting to each party proportionally.
Regarding judgmental opinions, Iskandar Norman explained, it is the personal opinion of journalists which is different from interpretative opinions which are journalists’ interpretations of facts.
“Journalists are responsible for providing accurate, factual, and neutral information on each candidate, political party, and issues raised by contestants in the Pilkada,” he added.
In addition, said Iskandar Norman, the media is an ideal Pilkada monitoring tool, by reporting each stage of the Pilkada properly and correctly, so that the media can help ensure the integrity of the five-yearly democratic process. The media can also encourage public participation in the Pilkada through educational and constructive literacy.
However, Iskandar Norman said that journalists should not only be trapped in reporting ceremonial news and straight news, but must be creative in writing Pilkada news in the form of features, in-depth reporting, and even conducting investigations into cases or alleged violations that occur.
“A lot of initial information about alleged violations of the Election or Pilkada actually started from media reports, even from social media, which were then verified objectively and transparently by journalists,” he concluded.
Bustami Hamzah – Tu Sop Ideal Combination of Umara and Ulama
The pair of prospective candidates for Governor/Deputy Governor of Aceh Bustami Hamzah with Tgk Muhammad Yusuf Abdul Wahab (Tu Sop) can be said to be an ideal combination of umara and ulama. It is not wrong if the Head of the Aceh NasDem DPW, Irsan Sosiawan, expressed his optimism that this pair will win the 2024 Aceh Pilkada contest.
NasDem is known as the party that first nominated this pair. They call it a surprise for Aceh. Yes, it was indeed a surprise from NasDem because at the beginning Tu Sop was predicted to be Muzzakir Manaf’s deputy who was supported by the Aceh Party and its coalition.
The NasDem Party with its surprise succeeded in “matching” Om Bus with Tu Sop. It also succeeded in then gathering a coalition of supporting parties which they called the New Hope Coalition. This coalition consists of NasDem, Golkar, PAN, PAS, PDA, PKN and the Labor Party. As the name suggests, this coalition wants to show the public that this is what can be a new hope for building a better Aceh.
If you look at the track record of this pair, it seems that this assumption is not excessive. Bustami Hamzah is known as a reliable bureaucrat who has held various strategic positions in the Aceh Government, including: Head of the Aceh Financial Management Agency (BPKA), Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Aceh, until later being entrusted to become Acting (Pj) Governor of Aceh.
His success in various positions, regardless of the dynamics and pros and cons that emerged, what is clear is that he is considered a capable figure to lead Aceh for the next five years. He was encouraged to step down from his position as Acting Governor to fight to become the definitive governor through the Pilkada democratic party. NasDem and its coalition succeeded in doing that, now all that remains is to step on the gas to take steps to win.
Meanwhile, Tu Sop, the deputy who was paired with Bustami Hamzah, also has added value, which can be a “magnet” to gain votes for this pair. Tu Sop is a cleric who is known to various circles, he is the Chairperson of the Dayah Ulama Association (HUDA), the leader of Dayah Babussalam Al Aziziyah Bireuen. A visionary cleric and entrepreneur who has been successful with various businesses, especially UMKM such as Ie Yadara bottled water and Yadara radio broadcasts.
Tu Sop is considered by many circles as the ideal type of leader who has a strong and universal Islamic base.
Tu Sop was born in Blang Me Barat, Jeunieb District, Bireuen Regency from Teungku Abdul Wahab Bin Hasbalah and Hj Zainab Binti Muhammad Saleh. In terms of knowledge, Tu Sop studied for four years at the Grand Mosque and studied with various scholars in Saudi Arabia, one of whom was the Sufi scholar Sheikh Sayed Muhammad Ali. After returning from Arabia, he served at Dayah MUDI Mesra Samalanga, until in 2001 he founded his own Islamic boarding school, Dayah Babussalam Al Aziziyah.
Looking at the track record of both of them, it is not wrong if the Bustami Hamzah – Tgk Muhammad Yusuf Abdul Wahab pair is called a new hope for Aceh, as the name of the coalition of supporting parties suggests, they are truly an ideal combination of umara and ulama.
